To My Dear and Loving Husband
Anne Bradstreet
If ever two were one, then surly we.
If ever men were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
pare with me, ye women, if you can.
I Prize thy love more than wholes mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give rpense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let\'s so persevere
That when we live no more, we may live ever.
解析:
這是一首清教徒寫的情詩。其中值得註意的是整首詩運用了莎士比亞常用的抑揚格五音步,已經每兩句都是一個對子,最後一個詞是押韻的。
