They punished Agamemnon, who tried to escape the divine command, with great cruelty. The miserable king was killed by his wife, because Clytemnestra believed that he was the cause of Iphigenia’s death. Then Orestes, their son, was forced to kill his mother by the laws of the Fates. Due to this crime, he was insane for a long time.

“Are you not Orestes, my brother” She questioned. “I am your sister, Iphigenia, saved by Diana. There are many dangers in the land of Taurus. Let’s flee without delay!”
Orestes, moved by the words of his sister, answered, “First, it is necessary for me to seize the small statue of Diana near the temple; without the statue we will not be able to return to Greece!”
He seized this statue, and Orestes fled with his sister and friend to the ship. Orestes was no longer insane.
In twenty seconds they sailed from the port of Taurus; in a short time they reached Greece. There they were welcomed with great joy by the astonished people.
