The Romans have many gods whose duty varied. They see gods everywhere—on land, in the fields, in grains, on mountains, in forests, in waves of the sea, in river waters, and everywhere in nature. Not all were equal in authority, for there were major deities and minor gods, gods and goddesses. Between the major deities the first authority was Juppiter, king and father of gods and humans, who was living in heaven and he held a lighting bolt in one hand, terrifying the evil ones. Juno was the wife of Juppiter and the queen of gods. Venus was the beautiful goddess of love. Mars, god of war, loves weapons, war, and army.
